Veterans Day 11/11/11

At

Eleven minutes to the

Eleventh hour of the

Eleventh day of the

Eleventh month of the year, the

Roll Call, of those who died in the past

Eleventh months, begins.

Eleven o’clock is when it finally ends, as

Eleven men render the final salute to fallen friends:

One Chaplain prays to Heaven for lives lost and save from Hell.

Seven men fire volleys and folded the flag so well

One sergeant-in-charge takes the flag and inserted the fallen shells

One officer-in-charge then takes the flag and secured it for the day

One soldier -- a bugler then played sweet Taps to sing these souls away.

There are

Eleven letters that spells this memorable day

for those who served and fought with pride

as the honorable

V-E-T-E-R-A-N-S D-A-Y!

by
First Sergeant James A. Porter, U. S. Army (ret.)

This poem, along with several other relating to American men and women in war were republished today in honor of veterans day. Its original title was For Fallen Comrades, and it was published in My Country in Distress in 2007, and this blog in October,2010, entitled VETERANS DAY...for fallen comrades (Part 1).
